Why This Matters
Correct discharge installation prevents sump pump failure, basement flooding, and freeze damage while integrating seamlessly with the main drainage system.
Discharge Installation Overview
1
Start with 1.5" PVC from the house
Begin with the standard discharge pipe from the sump pump system.
- The sump pump discharge typically exits the home using 1.5" PVC pipe
2
Install freeze-protection overflow adapter
Use a specialized adapter that provides critical freeze and clog protection for the system.
We use a specialized discharge adapter with horizontal slots. This part:
- Transitions from 1.5" PVC to a 4" PVC elbow, which is compatible with our system
- Connects to 4" dual-wall pipe using a Fernco fitting
- Provides freeze/clog protection—if the main discharge line is blocked, the slots allow water to escape through a secondary path, preventing the sump pump from burning out

3
Connect to main drainage line
Complete the installation by integrating with the larger drainage system.
- This pipe should eventually connect into the larger drain system, usually tying into a main discharge line
