Once a project is complete, proper cleanup ensures a professional finish, maintains good client relations, and prepares the team for the next job. Follow these final steps to leave the site looking better than we found it.
Cleanup Procedure
Remove all trash and tools: Pick up and dispose of trash (including utility marker flags), and collect all unused materials and tools from the site.
“Fluff” the grass: Use a leaf blower to fluff up grass where plywood or heavy foot traffic flattened it. This improves curb appeal and prevents long-term damage.
Stack and load plywood: Neatly stack all plywood sheets and load them onto the truck.
Reseed the area: Use a spreader to evenly apply grass seed and fertilizer to any area where the grass was disturbed or removed. Apply and pin down erosion blanket if in project scope.
Apply straw: Cover seeded areas with straw, breaking up any large clumps to ensure even coverage and protection.
Put tools away properly: Return tools to their proper, organized storage locations. This is typically the foreman’s responsibility and helps keep the truck and trailer ready for the next job.
Load and secure equipment: Carefully load equipment onto the truck or trailer. Use appropriate straps and secure everything according to transportation safety laws.
Wear high-visibility gear (if needed): If cleanup extends into dusk or low light conditions, crew members should wear reflective or high-visibility clothing for safety.
